CORONAVIRUS UPDATE

Updated: April 1, 2020

Protecting the health and safety of all our patients, staff, and their families, is of the utmost importance to us. To do our part in mitigating the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19), we will be following the recent national and local recommendations for dental offices to postpone elective dental procedures. However, we will still be open to handle any emergencies and answer questions. If you have an appointment scheduled in the next few weeks, you can anticipate a call from our staff to reschedule.

EMERGENCIES

Below are some tips to help guide you while we’re unable to perform routine adjustments and checks. These tips can help you handle issues at home and avoid coming into the office for an emergency appointment.

PROTRUDING WIRE

Use a Q-tip of clean tweezers and try to push the wire so that it’s flat against the tooth. If the wire can’t be moved to a point of comfort, cover it with wax.

IRRITATION

A small amount of orthodontic relief wax makes an excellent buffer between metal and mouth. Simply pinch off a small piece and roll it into a ball the size of a small pea. Flatten the ball and place it completely over the area of the braces causing irritation.

MOUTH SORES

Some patients are susceptible to episodes of mouth sores. While braces do not cause them, they may be precipitates or exacerbated by an irritation from braces.  Prompt relief may be achieved by applying a small amount of topical anesthetic (such as Orabase or Ora-Gel) directly to the ulcerated surface using a cotton swab – reapply as needed.

LOOSE BRACES OR BANDS

If the braces or bands have come loose in any way, call our office to determine the appropriate next steps.

If you have any questions regarding your treatment, or need to schedule an emergency appointment, please don’t hesitate to contact us – we are here for you!
